Listening again after 3 years
It sounds so funny to hear that back in 2015, Vancouver thought it would be the Greenest City in the World by 2020!! Singapore has long since surpassed most other world cities and had a lot more ‘green’ infrastructure in place before the idea of “Greenest City” ever occurred to anyone. But you have to think that if a city like Vancouver can’t do it, how many cities are there that actually can? This series is very interesting and very well put together. It’s understandable that widespread enthusiasm for the potential solutions would be the expected public response and the dominant tone of the podcast reflects this. Some real hope about the adaptations that can be made to help us cope with the coming storms is definitely offered. But we’ve just come out of a 4 year era of anti-progress and blatant dishonesty in a country which was once considered a world beacon or progress: the United States of America. It has become apparent that disinformation can turn people against making the changes that will allow humanity to adapt to the looming changes. Now we have a lingering pandemic that is putting many necessary changes on hold. Many questions are left unanswered in this podcast; unresolved challenges aren’t (and can’t be) mentioned, and unwanted conclusions are left out.
