Hickey has taken on a mammoth assignment and is executing it brilliantly. The trick? Hard work. He seems to have read everything and understood where it all fits in the larger context of artistic and cultural history. Bravo.

Insightful, comprehensive and compelling. One very small quibble: the music clips that are interspersed throughout the text tend to be much quieter in the mix than Andrew’s voice, which doesn’t quite do them justice.
