Sorry, an American accent doesn’t do it for me?

LOVE this narrator

I think the actor’s voice great. Naturally the story is. Sure - as a Brit I’d first looked for a “true” English narrative but the depth, tone and character interchange of this mature vAmerican English voice was very soothing and didn’t detract at all from the beautiful joy of the author’s words....Read full review »

I have just completed Episode 8, and thus far am enjoying this immensely! Thank you so much to the producers and voice actor for making this available for free! I would definitely donate to this effort to create more such audiobooks for the general public. I read this work many years ago, as a...Read full review »

We haven’t finished this recording yet, but the narration is really good. If I can find other books she has read, I’ll be sure to listen to them.

Talk about turning a classic into a jumble of words. Listened to the first episode for 5-10 minutes and gave up. Breathe, for goodness sake draw a breath and slow down. Moderate, all the words don’t have to be spat out like a machine gun.

I’ve been really impressed with the reader , thank you . This tale is the one dickens story I wasn’t familiar with . And I’m glad this was my first introduction to it

The reader is steady and quite good at changing voices and accents for different characters. She is easy to listen to and engaging.

Narrator is very good. It is a tad slow, but I won’t take any stars off for that because you can just listen at double speed. That’s how I listened, and it was great.

My favorite novel read so well I cannot distinguish between memories of my own reading experience and the audio experience. It’s a wonderful tale of two formats.

Amazing but I love the woman who narrates it.
Frost catcher via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/18/20
The woman who reads the book does an excellent job. Dickens wrote some long sentences, and she reads them so you can follow along and understand the idea. The story is so very good and she does it justice.

I have read Tale of Two Cities a couple of times. I consider it to be a timeless tale I can easily relate to. Dickens’ use of imagery phrasing to convey the emotion and atmosphere of the settings in his novel is the work of a master weaver of epic scope. Ms. Akers’ reading does great justice to...Read full review »

Amazing audiobook. I love the STORY (it was my first time hearing/reading it), I love the READER (she has a GREAT VOICE, she does different voices for different speakers, and she doesn’t talk too fast or too slow), I love Dickens’s writing techniques and imagery, and love that this audio book is...Read full review »

Amazing to get this audiobook for free, I highly recommend it to others. What a story - twists and turns, tension and excitement, Dickens at his masterful best. Great if you want a dramatisation of the French Revolution too.

An excellent story well read - the presence of the text to read was helpful; the podcast flowed well, and listening to this has shown me what a great story teller dickens could be.

Thank you to Jane A , an impressive narrator. It would have been very easy to over dramatize the narration and accents, and entirely botch the depth of the author's intent. The narrator read each passage so beautifully and yet in such an understated manner that I was compelled to stop the...Read full review »

Glad to see a free audiobook, but I wish it was formatted as one, rather than as a podcast. Speaker is dry and slow; using the double speed function on my iPhone is a must.
