As an older Gen X-er who grew up during the Scarsdale Diet/Slimfast era, I really appreciated and enjoyed this wonderful deep dive into the Cathy comic and her creator. Also the discussion around the status and struggles of (white, middle class) women, as well as Cathy Guisewite’s experiences in...Read full review »

What a fun rediscovery of this “maligned woman.” My younger adult self both related to Cathy and didn’t like her. I stopped reading comics when I moved out of my parent’s house because they were the ones with the newspaper subscription, so I lost the thread of her story in the 80’s and never even...Read full review »

It’s kinda surprising to have a conversation about queer women/fems and BIWOC being actively excluded from mainstream feminism but then uncritically praise radical feminists without mentioning the whiteness, and extreme bioessentialism and trans exclusion in radical feminism specifically in the...Read full review »

Amazingly deep and fun analysis of Cathy comics with an insightful look at the changing context of the comic over its lifetime. I feel like it helped me understand my awesome working boomer mother, who knows how to work podcasts perfectly fine and didn’t need the song.

This is honestly one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. I’m absolutely devouring the episodes at warp speed. I think we can all agree that Jamie Loftus is one of the most compelling and hilarious cultural voices of our age.

Jamie Loftus the hilarious, irreverent host, interrogates second wave feminism through the lens of the Cathy comics. This sounds LAME and boring but is super funny and insightful. Just listen. It’s the best of the podcast form.

I started reading this strip when I was five in 76 and read it most days for 20 years and and it was extraordinarily educational about the world outside my own house. She taught me a lot as she showed up for work and because I’m male she probably helped me learn things later because I could...Read full review »

Jamie Loftus’s analysis is nuanced, engaging, and astonishingly insightful. I was blown away by the arc of feminism, generational politics, and the women's liberation movement conveyed through the 30+ years of Cathy’s silly little comic strip adventures. Can’t recommend this podcast enough.Read full review »

I was completely absorbed by this well-researched examination of pop culture. Comics, alternative comics, and zines are such an interesting place to work out all the cultural contradictions we live everyday. Jamie is a gift to humanity and as a GenXer who absorbed all of the mixed messages of Cathy while growing up, I found this podcast truly enlightening and insightful - and as a bonus, it is guaranteed to tickle both of your funny bones!

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. Having grown up in the time that Cathy was at her most popular with merchandising everywhere and as a preteen often being compared to her by my own family, I had a lot of mixed feelings about her lingering into my adult hood. I now feel that I have a better...Read full review »

This is one of THE best podcasts I have ever listened to. It’s high-quality and taught me how to appreciate the Cathy comics. All I want to say is: Cathy Guisewite, I am sorry I overlooked you.

Love you so much. Thank you for putting your light out there - listened to Mensa and nearly pee-ed myself. Just found this. I’m a 43 year old woman with my own Cathy-like foibles and this podcast brings just a little levity to my daily grind 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

Job well done!! Fantastic, in depth research and a truly original topic on something that we all know about. I feel like I finished this understanding my Boomer parents a little bit better. Also: TEN THOUSAND STARS for the theme song when is it being released on iTunes??

Jamie once again brings nuance into a topic assumed by many to be a settled matter. I truly appreciate her even keeled approach to the topic: not letting Cathy off the hook, while still giving her credit for doing the important work of making many feel like they’re not alone in their struggles

I loved every minute of this podcast. I grew up with Cathy comics taped to the fridge and this podcast gave me so much insight to the world my mother was inhabiting and hustling through. I’m moving onto Jamie Loftus’s other podcasts now. Fascinating, well-researched and compellingly presented stuff!

The average Boomer will need anything from 85 grand to 100 for living a decent life in retirement per year! Social Security will be gone by 2035! Never thought I’d be into a show about a comic strip that started way before I was born and was commenting on a culture quite different to mine. But I was. I started listening to this because I love Jamie Loftus, but I kept listening for the insight. An in depth examination and a comic I long had mixed feelings about. The AACK Cast helped me make of both the thrill and the annoyance I felt for various Cathy strips. Enjoyed bechdel cast since 2017 and wanted to like these series but they’re a miss for me. Feels like a v uncomfortable blend of undergrad journalism and comedy.
