“I've listened to four episodes now. I was worried it would be very difficult to listen to and put off listening to the first episode for ages, but when I did listen I immediately downloaded all the subsequent episodes. It's not an exhibit on the terrible things white people have done - instead Reni and guests break down the recent history of multiculturalism, racism and the rise of the far right as well as the narratives we place around those things, for example when talking about the white working class.
I think I put off listening because I thought that, as a white person, I would feel guilty listening to how racism still affects so many people, but it's so informative that I feel that it can give us the tools to know better and do better. Knowing, for example, the factors around the BNP's successes in the Barking and Dagenham council elections means that we can recognise similar tactics at play in other settings and be more effective against racist and fascist parties.
