Giving me all that I want
Finally a podcast dedicated to the two Oscar categories that most interest me: lead and supporting actress. Enough of those podcasts that yap on and on talking about male this/male that (which is definitely what happens when you get into other categories since director/cinematographer/editing/craft categories are still so male heavy). My favorite take so far: the defense for Sally Kirkland in Anna. This is how I know you guys are actually watching these movies because only dummies would disregard Kirkland’s work in Anna. Worst take so far? Not so much a take as much as an inconsistency. One host says “so and so is just playing themself/doesn’t even seem like they’re acting,” and then in the very same episode will say, “oh, the hardest thing to do is look like you’re not acting.” So.....is it a good or bad thing to appear effortless? To me, the success of any star persona is to understand that, sure, this actor or actress (with whatever baggage they have) is now in this movie, but they’re still able to pull you into the given story and make you totally forget about said baggage.
