“I really value this podcast. They get some really excellent speakers and I find it to be a wonderful learning tool. My criticisms of the podcast would be that I find the presenters’ styles are quite closed (I.e. they don’t model openness and vulnerability) and I find that disappointing as it’s not in keeping with the ACT model. I also found that the male interviewer came across as judgmental on Louis Hayes’ interview when he was stereotyping of teenagers in general and sounded very judgmental of a teenager in particular who couldn’t stop crying in a session. They can also be non normalising at times (eg “that’s fine for normal teenagers but what about those who have depression?”) which again jars with me and is not in keeping with the ACT approach that we’re all humans together. I also sometimes find that there can be a little too much padding at the beginning about the speakers’ backgrounds when we all want to dive into their wisdom, tips and techniques so that we can learn, although on some episodes this has been better than others. All that being said, I am incredibly grateful to have this as a resource - it’s so useful to have experts delve in detail into specific aspects of the ACT model, the speakers often ask very informed questions that get speakers to open up, and I have no doubt that this will have a really positive impact on my practice.”
