38. Toxic Positivity: Can Positivity Hurt?
Listen now
Description
What is "toxic positivity"? Toxic positivity denies and minimizes any negative experiences and insists on a positive spin at all costs. It does not make room for the full range of human emotions/experience and can make us feel isolated and disconnected from our emotions. "Practicing positivity" is a preferable tool when working with our brain's inherent negativity bias. When we practice positivity, we strengthen mindfulness, support our emotional regulation skills, and encourage real connection.  We can recognize the reality of a situation and still work on our own cognitive flexibility and use strategies to shift our mindset without denying our experience or masking.
