Perfect balance. Adventure and humour
How many hours have I spent with this gang! I love this. I have listened to every episode and found myself really caught in the story. This is a great introductory podcast for D&D. It keeps things simple while allowing our heroes to go to an unexpectedly huge story with some genuinely creative things the DM throws in later. (No spoilers, but there are some very interesting tests, clever use of items, really letting the rolls and decisions dictate the story.) The characters are great. You can tell it's four friends laughing and enjoying themselves. Sometimes the accents are off, and that's part of the fun. Great characters overall: I love Thrace, the big dragonborn who is actually a sensitive person who drinks fruity little drinks at the tavern. (There's even....romance?? Found myself listening to the 'date' episode and kind of laughed at how caught up I was in the story.) Hendley --- he's over the top. (ie: the 'spelling' joke is overdone by 1000%) Sometimes you think he is too much and roll your eyes but then a week later you miss the guy and you tune in again. Admittedly Julian does a bit less character work he just seems happy to be playing D&D and throwing lightning bolts, his enthusiasm for discovering the game comes across. Deserving a mention is the absolutely fantastic audio production which supports this whole thing. The audio effects add to the immersion, the music isn't repetitive and the games don't fall into cross-talk. Everyone is easy to understand. (I am surprized how some bigger D&D podcasts like Critical Role have bad audio compared to this, makes a huge difference.)Read full review »

I love this podcast. Reminds of the fun I had back in my RPG days. Makes me want to play again. Don't go biweekly!! That's too long to wait between episodes.Read full review »
