A grand project from a true master
Trevor Aaronson is probably the best living writer on the subject of the modem FBI, so you can imagine my surprise to see he’d put out a podcast. Professionally produced and animated with unreal body cam footage, wiretap archival and oddball film and video content, Aaronson breathes life into the absolute monster that the FBI paid to (in the infamous words of J. Edgar Hoover) “expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize” Denver’s grassroots social justice movement during the summer and fall of 2020. Aaronson reveals that, nearly 50 years after the Church Committee ripped the lid off COINTELPRO, the Bureau never gave up systematically attempting to destroy the American protester. In fact, the FBI’s efforts are dumber and more sinister than ever.
