Excellent, engaging, and highly listenable
After flying through every single episode of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, I was really hungry for more American history, which I know next to nothing about. I went through a few other podcasts but found those to jump around too much and also rely too much on reading. Each of these is an engaging conversation, and it more or less goes in order, so you can build on what you've learned. In the same way that Dan Carlin leans heavily towards military history, these vignettes are more focused on political history, and that gives them some structure.Read full review »

The only thing better than listening to historians talk knowledgeably and intelligently about American history, is listening to SCOTTISH DUDES talk knowledgeably and intelligently about American history. The 1968 show was interesting but the part about music was just not up to scratch. Random unconnected thoughts about heavy metal (???) bands breaking up and worst of all no, none, not a single reference to Motown, Atlantic and black music of that year at all! Most of the popular podcasts you listen to these days make some sort of effort to make their audio as clear and easy on the ears as possible by recording them in an appropriate space with decent microphones.
