I’ve been subscribed for years now and the team always delivery in depth and informed discussions, supported by shorter single topic updates. Love the attention to evidence from documents, archaeology & modern recreations/ experiments.

As someone deeply fascinated with military history I find this podcast to be a godsend. I can parse through the writings of antiquity all day and still not have a clear depiction of ancient military history and these guys do an incredible job of not only summarizing a lot of dense historical work...Read full review »

This pod often goes well beyond my level of knowledge in this area. Love the enthusiasm the different contributors show. Particularly like how these historians are clear on their sources unlike some other shows.

Latest episode had a clown interject his “Modern” political views into an “Ancient” Podcast- your podcast just became a ClownShow-Love You Murray-can’t listen to your clown friend. Wish you well.

I’ve been listening to this pod for a couple of years and overall I do love it. I love both the longer and bite-sized episodes and I always learn something new... But it just occurred to me that in all this time of listening I don’t believe I’ve ever heard a female war historian come on? I’m sure...Read full review »

The topics are interesting, but how it is approached does not work. They waste too much time with back-and-forth banter that leads to a meandering conversation. The actual substance of the content suffers as a result. To make it worse, the banter is not interesting or funny. They also find a way...Read full review »

In the first few minutes of an episode about the Roman legion, they can’t pronounce “velites” properly. (Hint: 3 syllables, not 2) How can I trust anything else if something that basic is messed up?

This focuses on more than just Spartans or Macedonians. Whereas the Forgotten Wars Podcast gives you a whole season about a war, this gives you bite sized chunks. Enjoy!

They talk about almost every aspect of ancient battle I’ve always been wondering about. Plenty of long and short episodes to choose from. Awesome!

I get AW magazine and I look forward to the new shows every week, but this last one about Sparta was terrible. I appreciate different viewpoints, but the modern day political agenda was over the top and not necessary. I unfortunately will be taking a break from the podcast. Cole’s last book...Read full review »

Who cares if modern warriors are inspired by Spartan mythology or facts? As long as they are inspired to defend our nation against the evils of modern history.

The politics was annoying. The history is fun. Stick to what you’re good at.

I am in the middle of binging all of the episodes. I didn’t wanna miss any of them because this content is so cool.

A podcast that starts from an assumption that you have a basic understanding of Ancient History and Warfare and carries on from there. The contributors generally know their stuff, but also are not afraid to say so when they don’t. I’ve followed this podcast for several years and it has gone from...Read full review »

Going into this Show I had no idea who the Thebans were. The show just jumped into details. Without the big picture I was lost, turned it off.

For example; Peter’s Projection is a land area map, Mercator designed his map for navigation, not to assert ‘white supremacy’ How can you make programs on war when you are obviously Communist apologists ? Why don’t you switch to cooking, or maybe infant nursing ? Then you wouldn’t have to twist...Read full review »

I have been listening to it for years! The conversations are one of a kind. These gentlemen know ancient history as if it was yesterday. Their new feature AWA is brilliant... it’s like the whiskey shot to their normal growler of dark stout roman beer!

Really enjoy the format of just a few experts chatting and debating about the topic. One of my favourites.

They really put in the effort, and produce a very high quality history podcast. Each episode benefits from the panel of experts - without there being too many cooks. Interesting topics and a healthy amount of audience interaction. Give it a listen!

Great teamwork between the presenters and interesting topics! It would be great if they could incorporate other regions in the world beyond mainly Southern Europe and the Near East. That said, a really good show where you feel you are part of a very informative discussion!

Love the show but two points chariots fell out of use because horses became physically big enough to carry a warrior into battle thus basically overtaken by technology And cavalry were used by both the Germans and the Russians in WW2.

A lot of history podcasts are garbage, this is NOT one of those. The contributors have a great depth of knowledge and assume their audience has some basic understanding of military history. It has improved over time, both content, delivery and production values. It is always worthwhile listening....Read full review »

I’m giving this 4 stars since it’s right up my alley and I’m enjoying what I’ve listened to so far. But in truth while the information and guests are of high quality, it is certainly almost entirely western focused and even quite Mediterranean centered. For instance, the latest episode on...Read full review »

These guys are fantastic in their knowledge, but the quality of the recording itself is really terrible. It’s essentially a4-way Skype that gets recorded and goes completely unedited.
