Really enjoyable podcast. David covers each subject with clear enthusiasm and humour. Very easy to follow but at the same time informative for listeners with any level of knowledge of Anglo Saxon history.

Pay attention, folks, THIS is how to podcast. David Crowther is an artiste of podcasting, though he might cringe at that snooty description. Engaging, intelligent, informative, and witty, he's far and away my favorite podcaster. I marvel at how his delivery of his well-prepared content comes...Read full review »

I’ve listened and relistened to all the episodes and always pick up new information and insights—it’s such a juicy funny entertaining podcast!

It’s great to find a history of this period that focuses on “ordinary” life, not just the rulers and political events.

I so enjoy this podcast. The cheeky humor never gets in the way of the earnest love and care for the subject of life in early medieval England. Before it was England. So really that one wet island in the years between 500 and 1066 CE. Anyway, if you like early medieval history peppered with Gen X...Read full review »

So informative and often, so funny. Great content and delivery.

Very effective as an overview, though the choices about which details to delve into often feels like they are arbitrary. It’s a nice starting point to have on in the background if you’re getting into researching the period, though I wouldn’t say it’s super up to date. Content is on the whole...Read full review »

Very interesting and entertaining. The combination of overall big picture along with interesting detail is ideal. I haven’t listened to his “history of England” podcast yet but I definitely will be on the strength of this

The history of England told in an informative way where all the facts and conflicting evidence are laid out in an easy to understand, chronological manner. David has a pleasant voice and personality that make it fun to listen and learn.

I started to watch the "The Last Kingdom" on Netflix and wanted to find out if historical basis for what was portrayed on TV bears out with the historical record. I stubmled across Crowther to my delight. I enjoy how he interjects his wit into the subject matter. I definitely will finish...Read full review »

If you need or want to ‘get into’ the Anglo-Saxons, here’s how to do it. David is clear and witty - two essentials when binge listening to a history podcast.

I started listening to this podcast as a supplement to a bunch of early Scandinavian history and literature podcasts I had subscribed to, and it’s honestly so entertaining that I’ll probably subscribe to his main English history feed after I clear some of the...Read full review »

After listening to a single episode of the Anglo-Saxon podcast, no one can imagine that history is actually boring. David brings those dry confusing chronicles to life with verve. I think it is verve. It might be vim. I always get those confused.
