“Prof Pogge loves teaching astronomy, and he does a fine job of taking listeners on an introductory tour of the solar system. He also covers the various supporting ideas you need to know, without plunging you into any heavy maths, along with something of the history of the subject. And he manages to avoid the typical and unnecessary problems (sound quality, inaudible unrepeated questions, poor editing) that ruin many an academic podcast recorded in lecture halls. This cast is easy to listen to and follow, and notes to accompany the course are available on the web.
The only down side is that this is an audio cast, while the subject itself is so visual. But you can fill that gap easily using the internet, Wikipedia, Nasa, etc.
I listened to last year’s course, and the equally good Astro 162 (Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe), and ended up taking a couple of short adult education courses (Open University in the UK) around this subject to deepen my understanding; can’t say better than that for an educational podcast!”Read full review »

“Look, this guy is a typical scientist type (and rightly so) but things make sense even without the visuals that the lecture obviously contains.
