Pretentious in a bad way
The hosts of this podcast discuss like they all have PhDs in literature. Unfortunately, they are not. Somehow, they have picked up the terms academics use but fail to use them properly. Their lack of real knowledge about the books they discuss truly show. They should either have used a format where actual literature scholars discuss the book, or they discuss the book as plebeians. As it is, they come across, like seemingly all participants in Slate podcasts, as unjustly pretentious. Truly annoying podcast.
