Like talking movies with your best friends
I've been listening to Battleship Pretension (hosted by Tyler Smith and David Bax) since about episode 100 or so, and it is easily my favorite movie podcast on iTunes. I can understand some of the reviews that complain they go off topic, but that is one of many running jokes in the series that makes these two so endearing to fans. It is probably one of the most down-to-earth movie podcasts, and the listener feels like you're having a conversation with your two close friends rather than putting on a show. It also helps that they are both very knowlegable on movies and more than willing to admit they haven't seen more than a couple "classics." This makes the show highly accessible to casual movie fans (such as myself). For how intimate and personal the show is, I'm always surprised by the quality of the guests. From Doug Jones to the high-strung Josh Fadem to their highly recommended premium episode with comedian Bil Dwyer, I always find myself surprised by the quality and frequency of the guests. Tyler and David are fantastic interviewers, letting the show revolve around the guest and being genuinely (and intellectually) curious that allows conversation to flow naturally. In the end, this is a labor of love, and you can feel that in every episode. You're either onboard with these two - with Tyler's picky eating habits to David's love of intentionally mispronouncing words - or you are kindly asked to get off at the next port. If you stick around, you'll start picking up on the inside jokes and come love love the self-deprecating personalities of the hosts. This show will grow on you if you give it the chance.Read full review »

One of my favorite podcasts. It's refreshing to hear people who are passionate film fans talking about movies without focusing on what's out now. Thanks guys!Read full review »

I have been listening to these guys for a while now after finding them through another podcast. They are just two guys that seem to really have a love of movies. So many critics seem to treat their discussion of movies as a job and don't really love their work. Even though some people...Read full review »

For the love of goodness, please get to the topic of the show!!! I am listening to the most recent episode (#225), it's 35 minutes in and counting, and these two guys still haven't gotten to the show's main topic (anti-authority films). I'm done, done, DONE! For 225 shows, you...Read full review »
