Wonderful podcast
Battleship Pretension isn't so much an acquired taste as a complex taste. A large chunk of the fun of this podcast consists in the interplay between the two hosts -- an interplay grounded in their long history and a decopage of running jokes, peeves, and passions. You can enjoy the podcast, certainly, if you start from the lastest, but why not treat yourself to hours of listening pleasure by checking in with perhaps the most recent one, while simultaneously going back through from the beginning? Some of the best BP moments have taken months of build up (hosts working out distinctions between author and auteur), while others exploded out of nowhere (David on throwing up). Tyler's gentle, thoughtful courtesy is the perfect foil for David's quirky, brilliant rants. They both have an amazingly nuanced appreciation and passion for movies, are great at sharing it, and bring a broad spectrum of knowledge to their podcast. I get really really really tired of the complaints about the hosts not getting the exact names of references correct every single time - they are working live, without Google (at least most of the time), don't waste listener patience but keep up a good flow, and they give enough information for the curious to look things up for themselves if so inclined. Battleship Pretension and Filmspotting are two of my favorite podcasts - and I say "podcasts" here, period, not "podcasts about movies." Also, BP gets great guests and has turned me on to a number of new movies, people, websites, and podcasts (including Never Not Funny, for which I will always be grateful). Maybe my favorite podcast, especially given how long it has been going. Greater depth than most podcasts, and excellent rapport between the hosts.

One of the best film podcasts out there, it would probably be the best if the hosts saw any movies but what can you do. It's funny and educational, but if your looking for a film news podcast this probably isn't for you.Read full review »

Podcast is decent for the most part, but I suggest if you are going to talk or bring up a specific movie you may want to have seen the movie prior. They seem to know a good share of obscure movies, but have not seen a decent amount of 'main stream' movies which is fine unless you are...Read full review »
