I want to be best friends with everyone on this podcast.
This podcast is great if you love fannish things, meta, the lines between profic and fanfic, exploring tropes, drawing connections between serious and less-serious literary works and understanding why both are important, and listening in on a conversation between three extremely smart and interesting people who love all the same things I do. Also if you love/hate it when your to-be-read pile blows up every other week because of an infux of new and amazing recommendations. After every episode, I find myself bringing up that trope or topic pretty regularly within the next week or so (e.g. episode 2, about personality taxonomies/labels, both in real life and in fiction, sent me off on several tangents at work) because the Serpents often reference things that I'm already thinking about but didn't have a framework of semi-academic arguments to work from and organize my thinking around. They provide that, plus a lot of laughs. I normally am not a big podcast person, but I highly recommend this one!Read full review »

An extremely interesting exploration of tropes and themes and writing tied together in a unique way. I love how they use three different pieces of media to examine similarities and as springboards for discussion.
