“This podcast is great if you love fannish things, meta, the lines between profic and fanfic, exploring tropes, drawing connections between serious and less-serious literary works and understanding why both are important, and listening in on a conversation between three extremely smart and interesting people who love all the same things I do. Also if you love/hate it when your to-be-read pile blows up every other week because of an infux of new and amazing recommendations.
After every episode, I find myself bringing up that trope or topic pretty regularly within the next week or so (e.g. episode 2, about personality taxonomies/labels, both in real life and in fiction, sent me off on several tangents at work) because the Serpents often reference things that I'm already thinking about but didn't have a framework of semi-academic arguments to work from and organize my thinking around. They provide that, plus a lot of laughs. I normally am not a big podcast person, but I highly recommend this one!”Read full review »

“An extremely interesting exploration of tropes and themes and writing tied together in a unique way. I love how they use three different pieces of media to examine similarities and as springboards for discussion.”
