History of Juneteenth: "End of Slavery" or Not? What now 2023 America?
Listen now
Description
Today we dive into the history of Juneteenth (please accept my apologies for consistently say 1965 instead of 1865), a day in which it took an army nearly 6 months after the surrendering of the confederacy to ensure slaves in Texas knew they were free. We will dive into the mindset of a freed slave and discuss if being granted freedom from enslavement equals true freedom and equality while also looking into the mindset of white America, specifically the mindset of pro slavery,  pro-confederacy, white America. If something is taken from your that you believe is unjust, what is your view on that thing and that new law? If you were willing to go to war to keep your right to own another human being, if you believe in that right that you are willing to kill or be killed for it, how do those views change once the war is lost? How are those view pasted down to you children, children's children, and so on and so on?
