Meh
I listened to about half the episodes and had to stop because I just realized it was not edifying. It started to make me feel very blah and uninspired about my faith. The hosts have a way of making Christianity feel relevant, but then it somehow starts to feel indistinct from a worldly perspective. Some of the Old Testament cultural background explanations in the first season are excellent. Otherwise I have some disagreements, and I often find the attitude of the hosts to be off putting. They have a way of framing their insights that give an impression of, “Everything you thought you knew before about the Bible is wrong,” which is a prideful and ultimately really unedifying approach. Much better to have the perspective of continually growing our knowledge and building on our foundation. You can teach people new things without cutting the ground out from below them and making them feel like their childhood Sunday school teachers were morons. There are some good things to learn here, but other things I feel are a step in the direction of deconstruction and losing your faith if you don’t exercise discernment.
