Irresponsible misinformation
I wanted to love this podcast because I love Aleen and Sami in DST. The latest episode that describes a quick and rosy home birth was really disappointing. I completely understand that many women have enjoyable and successful home births, but this episode was rife with misinformation. The guest stated she pursued a home birth because of poor obstetric outcomes in patients of color. It is absolutely a true and tragic fact that POC have higher complications and mortality rates than white patients. This would be a GREAT topic to address with an actual expert… or at least someone with more knowledge than what the guest gleaned from a podcast about love and relationships. She actually said that black women have a “fifty fifty” chance at dying during birth at a hospital. Not only is this grossly inaccurate, but there is a much higher risk of dying at home. By the end of the episode the bottom line seemed to be that homebirths are the best option for black mothers. I imagine Aleen and Jordana’s ob/gyn mothers would be disappointed in this episode. I definitely think there is a role for including multiple perspectives of individual mothers, but I think that countering this episode with interviews with midwives, doulas, and physicians would be far more balancedAnd accurate. I would also really love to hear someone with expertise on the birthing experience of black mothers and disparities in medicine. At the very least, they should be careful to mention disclaimers about discussing any medical issues with a physician and admitting when guests are not indeed experts.

More reviews of Betches Moms
I want to love this as much as I love other Betches podcasts, but the secret sauce is missing. I think the vulnerability/honesty is lower than in DST. Also feels more conversational and less planned than other Betches podcast. Betches mom could be amazing- keep refining and editing!!

I’m 20 weeks pregnant (same exact due date as Aleen and we’re both having girls!) and this pod couldn’t come at a more perfect time. It’s already soooo good and informative and makes motherhood more relatable and fun. Can’t wait for more eps!

Love the new vibe of this podcast lately! My favorite episodes are when it’s Brittany and Aleen chatting about their experiences. I love the new segments too. I think this is more of a fun listen than having on an “expert” because this way there’s almost definitely something relevant to any mom...Read full review »
