Incredible Podcast. A great Idea expertly executed with sympathetic guests and an even more sympathetic host. Regardless of wether you know the book being discussed or not, it’s always fun!!

Still my favourite pod after all these years! Been listening since ep1! Makes you feel so smart and cultured knowing about books and the authors. But please please stop letting Kirsty Webeck on…. I like her but she makes the episodes insufferable, she makes the story so hard to follow, she...Read full review »

As someone who’s mind often wonders when reading books, Dave’s condensed storytelling is a wonderful way to experience/understand works I know I’d never have the resolve to finish myself. Also, the wide variety of subjects means you get to enjoy stories outside of the genres you may normally...Read full review »

Love when there is a live audience and your reaction and your guests reactions to them. As always a great show. Liked that you listened to an English narrator to figure out the pronunciation of “Iping”. And as always Matt’s reaction an idea for “double bluff” for the book title. Now for the...Read full review »

Too much Shakespeare slander! I will not have it. The podcast medium is too dismissive to this author whose works can only be appreciated more when they’re seen and NOT heard, as his true genius of his writing can be appreciated more that way - the plots being recounted here making them seem more...Read full review »

I love Book Cheat, it’s one of the most soothing and comforting podcasts to me. Dave has an amazing ability to weave his guests jokes into the book he’s talking about.

Terrifically entertaining and informative. Perfect combination of laughing while you learn.

Great idea for a pod, great host, but some episodes are much more enjoyable than others, depending on the guests. Some guests are just not that funny and add little, in fact they steer things way off course - I give up on these episodes as it’s rambling and not interesting.

The host, Dave, is witty, well spoken, and Australian; what else could one want?

This is one of my favorite podcasts! Dave has a great way of contextualizing classics and describing each moment to make it come to life. Really hope he returns soon and releases a new podcast soon! Long live the book chook

David James Warneke, you son of a gun. By not releasing any episodes for 6 months, you have forced my desperate, pod-starved self to read some books, so I can enjoy the pod’s back catalogue spoiler-free. Looking forward to your return- BOOKS FOREVER!!!

This podcast is so funny. As I listen, it’s on a break so I really miss it. I know Dave from Do Go On, his other podcast with Matt and Jess. Book Cheats is so fun and honestly helps me see some themes in these books that I may not have noticed at first reading. Dave is also funny AND...Read full review »

Dave may be reading the books for me, but he does such a good job it makes me want to experience them myself. Absolutely love it!

Great podcast about classic books, but extremely funny and interesting. Best episode is #65 about Pride and Prejudice with his partner Gabriella White. She is so charming and funny, and they are a wonderful couple. Dave’s synopses are well done and his guests are usually comedians and great fun....Read full review »

As Dave says, he’s read the book so we don’t have to. Love hearing summaries of books I’ve read, and those I haven’t. Love the guest hosts each week. Books forever! 🤣

But when are we getting the animorphs spin-off with Mish and Zach? For real though, very funny stuff.

Fantastic spin-off from Do Go On. Fun guests and great retellings from Dave that really paint a full picture of the books or poems he’s reading. Highly recommended even if you have read the books. I’m long past high school, but this would have been a major help getting through the test for a book! Really great for adults who would like a refresher or always wanted to tackle a classic but haven’t quite gotten there.

Book Cheat is a great listen if you have a bucket list of classics that you have always wanted to read but have never really had a chance. Dave also finds obscure classics from diverse authors with eclectic voices, so every episode is a good listen.

It’s been years since I’ve had to write a book report, but if I had to write one tomorrow, I’d transcribe the latest ep of this pod and turn that in. For sure A+ return I think.

I absolutely love the pod! After discovering it through Do Go On I binged all of it in a matter of two months. I would recommend for anyone needing to work on a book without dying of boredom. Dave has single handedly with the help of some friends made classic books very cool and funny. Not that they weren’t already cool but they are much cooler when they are retold this way ;)

For those of you like me who enjoy Dave’s lovely tones and sometimes giddy enthusiasm from Do Go On, here is another good dose for you. Meh
Listened to the ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ episode. Could’ve read the 180 page book faster than the episode. Two guests who are comedians could not say anything that made me chuckle but giggled a lot at themselves. Only one of the three had seen the classic movie. I couldn’t take it anymore when...Read full review »

Listen, I’m gonna level with you, I’m Canadian, and this is the third, maybe even fourth best podcast I listen to. And I’ve never left a podcast review before, for obvious reasons.
