“My daughters and I love this podcast. In each episode, award-winning public radio journalist and playwright Kitty Felde hosts a small group of elementary or middle school kids as they discuss a middle grade book that they've read.
There is so much magic here: the kids are always bright and thoughtful; Kitty Felde interviews them without an ounce of condescension. Her direct, engaging style draws real answers from the kids and the discussion often goes far beyond the content of the novels. As they discuss themes, the kids end up revealing personal opinions that offer a glimpse into the inner lives of kids and provide a good jumping-off point for conversation.
The celebrity readers have been excellent and the author interviews are wonderful - they really give you a sense of who the author is and why they write for kids.
And, not that it's the main thing here, but...
Book Club for Kids is the perfect "in the car with kids" podcast. Age-appropriate without being too childish for middle grade readers, the episode length is the exact time that it seems to take us to get anywhere and back back home again.
