Real picture of Booms
I’m from North Dakota and our most recent boom downturn came in 2016. Being a resident in a town some 60-100+ miles from the Bakken boom, these stories are all too familiar of what a person would hear or witness of life during the boom. From 1 hour Walmart checkout lines to inflated groceries, housing and gas, plus increased fatalities and crime, it’s almost haunting to hear it continues in other parts of the country. It is a different kind of nightmare. One where the the pace is so fast, it feels almost impossible to keep up with (ie. 8000+ pizzas in a week? What kinda of world is that?) It’s the kind of living a person can’t believe they live through when it’s over but also brings a sense of desire when it’s gone. You are envious and feel sorry for those in the boom all at the same time. There’s no other feeling like it in the world. Great podcast to give those who haven’t experienced a boom a real life perspective while bringing back memories for those no longer a part of one!

Everything about this podcast is good. Music fits (and is not overbearing) Superior journalism, great voice, perfect pacing. Not too many commercials. Production quality is on point. Great job!

This is a surprisingly fascinating subject and the storytelling is absolutely first rate. Well done Texas Monthly and Christian Wallace!
