A shadowy part of Canadian history overshadowed by broader implications.
Not sure what on earth other comments downgrading this podcast are about, suggesting it’s not a Canadian story, they obviously didn’t listen. I heard about sleep rooms back in the 80s, and was always stunned more information wasn’t available on these horrific experiments. Montreal has quite the history of unethical scientific and medical practices. However, I’m disappointed at how quickly they wrapped up the coverage of the McGill practices and the sleep rooms and moved on to later implications. While I certainly appreciate their importance, it really makes the Montreal experiments feel like a footnote rather than a story in and of itself. The victims of the Allan Memorial and exactly what happened there deserved much more attention than they ultimately received in this podcast.

I keep this one permanently downloaded on my device like some kind of disturbing security blanket for when other podcasts fail. The effort here to go to original sources and incorporate texture from period audio clips really shows dedication and polish.
