The more I listened, the worse it gets
Used to really enjoy the podcast, and thought this is just what we needed as a nation, people with opposing viewpoints coming together and realizing we ultimately want the same thing, which is a better and more prosperous life for everybody. But slowly I started to realize things were off. Krystal never concedes points to Saagar. Her whole “compromise” is attacking democrats, but for not being far left enough. A big example is the topic of gun control, it was never presented with all the facts (a Republican senator proposed a universal background check scheme that would allow any individual to access a website and generate a limited time code to offer if they passed the background check, but democrats completely rejected it because they’re not interested in solving gun violence, just banning guns). I realized it’s just virtue signaling against straw men, rather than coming at something with all the facts and viewpoints. And I grew to deeply despise Ryan on Counterpoints. I could get past the awkward pauses and stammering. But eventually his condescending smugness became too apparent and was too much to handle. For example, when Emily rightly brought up some sexist and inappropriate comments made about Lauren Boebert (who I detest) and onlyfans, Ryan seemed more interested in joining in with the mocking than calling it out.
