Red pill vs blue pill
I was recommended to this show by a friend. She describes herself as a left leaning feminist. I would describe myself as politically homeless, or a traditional centrist. Many option columnists pick an agenda and bend the world to their view. These two are walking the much more difficult path of trying to get left and right wingers to listen to them. I listened to three episodes, The majority of the time they were either taking a centrist position or a slightly left leaning position. They would occasionally bring up right leaning positions but never espouse them themselves. To compare them to a red vs blue pill analogy, I would say they are a solid purple pill… and they are either intentionally only looking for or well aware of the fact that only or mostly left leaning people are listening to them. I.e. Right wing commentary is very much about getting away from progressivism while left wing doubles down on it. These two clearly embraces it as a plausible normalcy for many Americans while not acknowledge the vast numbers of Americans who do not embrace any form of progressivism at all. To them I say, “keep trying, you’ve got some things right and you’re at least trying” To their listeners I say, “ take everything you hear from any source with a grain of salt, and always, always, do your own research. Never expect an opinion show to tell you both sides even if they claim they’re trying to”
