Cornwall Alternative School - Bryan Rice and Jay Kayseas
Listen now
Description
In March I had the pleasure of spending time at Cornwall Alternative School in Regina Saskatchewan. There I met an incredibly passionate and caring staff along with the funny, smart, and charming students. Cornwall Alternative School brings in youth from every corner of the city that are slipping through the cracks in public, Catholic and private schools. Its whole purpose is to support youth with compassion and empathy that would otherwise likely dropout and get lost in the abyss with societies under privileged. These youth deal with things like addiction, trauma, mental illness and poor home lives. The school relies on donations and partial funding from the local government to stay operational. In this episode I speak with the principal, Bryan Rice and school counsellor Jay Kayseas to get a better idea of how the school started, obstacles a school like this runs into, what some of the needs of their students are and the future hopes for the school.
