Herbert Mullin decided in the 1970s that he had to sacrifice the lives of others in order to prevent the State of California from being destroyed by a massive earthquake. He believed he was the 'chosen one' and because he thought his victims gave him permission to end their lives, he didn't feel remorseful about his dirtbag actions.
