The episode Fried scones at the Ration Shed was heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Must admit I have never made the pineapple pie, but I do remember baking a pineapple meringue tart upon discovering the recipe in my high school home ec cookbook (Day to Day Cookery). Likewise, my late mother’s boiled fruit cake which included a tin of crushed pineapple was on regular rotation during my childhood and adolescence. I thought I had lost her recipe only to discover the exact same recipe on the Golden Circle cannery website. I suspect she too had been ‘influenced’ at some stage by Ruby Borrowdale or her ilk.
