Weak offering
The vocal talent of Cynthia is clear in this QCode offering, but the narrative is weak, poorly paced and doesn’t offer a compelling throughline or any well-developed characters beyond Raylene to some small degree. The season needed to be substantially longer OR substantially tighter written plot wise. A huge point of failure is the structure of the recording itself; any tension is regularly interrupted given that for every two minutes of narrative there’s a minute of something else, between intro, recap, explanation of what an immersive audio drama is (as if we weren’t aware of the concept of 3d audio and need a 30 second reminder), mid roll ad for another podcast, second mid roll ad, and credits. It really doesn’t stand up well against other strong QCode offerings, despite a stellar performance from Erivo.

The audio in this podcast is another experience. It makes you feel like you are in the scene. The acting is great and entertaining. I cannot wait for more episodes!

I was a huge fan of Blackout with Rami Malek, but Carrier is even better. Really think these guys are elevating the narrative podcast structure. Can’t wait for the next episodes!
