“I’ve listed to several book reviews and for the most part they are great and added a couple of books that I want to read for myself. I’m stuck at the Dolly Parton book though. I’ve stopped listening a couple of times because of the broad brush all southerners are painted with by you. I’m was born and raised in California but I’ve been to most of the southern states many times and know plenty of people from there. They aren’t all racist, religious extremists, that hate anyone different from themselves.
I think in past episodes you have done a great job of defining when attitudes and vocabulary used in a book represents a different time with different socially acceptable behavior. However in this episode I would be led to believe that you think the south is a cesspool of ignorance, hatred and bigotry with no redeeming qualities in its people. It’s divisive and untrue language.
While I have loved other episodes and applaud your very active support of women and the struggle to reach a level of celebrity and all they’ve had to overcome, it saddens me to see you do the very thing you seem to fighting against. I will probably try a different episode in the future but am taking a break for now.”
