#126 - A Kinship of the Ridiculous: Serenity, Showgirls & The Counselor
Listen now
Description
This week Sean and Steven saw a movie that they've been anticipating for about a year now. This movie is called Serenity starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway and was written and directed by Steven Knight. It was pushed back months and months, (not a good sign) and finally came out last week. It got terrible reviews, but we saw it anyway and we're here to tell you what we think. And in tribute to what-turned-out-to-be this ridiculous film, we decided to talk about a couple of other ridiculous films that came to mind when watching Serenity. We went back to the famously terrible Showgirls to see how such a great director as Paul Verhoeven could turn out such a laughably horrible product. We also went back just a few years to revisit another great director's ridiculousness in Ridley Scott's The Counselor written by novelist Cormac McCarthy and starring Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, and Brad Pitt.
