Unpack actionable levers!!
My family just went on a road trip and my husband and I listened to two of your podcasts together (interviews with Go Curry Cracker and Collins). Previously, we've listend to your podcasts independently on the way to work or while cooking/doing dishes and then we discuss the information together later. We had fun listening together and smiling at each other whenver you use words like "actionable," "levers," or "unpack." My husband and I love all the information we get out of your podcasts. We've already taken action on some of your advice. For example, I've tried to get a better handle ono our grocery expenses, which were over $1000/month, by creating a Google Docs spreadsheet and listing all the items we buy down the first column and then including the prices of those items at the various stores we shop (Costco, Aldi, Butera, Jewel, Mariano's, Walmart) down the other columns to determine which stores have our go-to items for the cheapeast. Most often, I find that Costco is the cheapest in most everything but produce and meat. Then, I look to my weekly ads for the best places to buy produce and meat for the week and build my meal plans for the week around those sales. My goal is to get our grocery expenses down to about $500/month (for me, groceries include food as well as household items like laundry detergent, ziploc bags, garbage bags, toilet tries, foil, saran wrap, and so on). Even on vacation when we stayed in a condo with a kitchen and cooked most of our meals at the condo, my groceries in an expensive vacation destination were still $150 for the week and we only spent about $100 eating out (and this included 36 hours on the road)! Plus, we've sigend up for the Chase Business Ink credit card and Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card and will be maxing out those points in hopes of getting great travel rewards! As we continue to listen to you, we are starting to reconsider what is really necessary for us to spend money on and how we can live our lives differenty so that we can save more while working toward a life that allows us to work less and be with family more often doing activies we really enjoy. You've given us many ideas and the realization that we can take steps to have the life we really want and it won't involve sacrifice, but rather refocusing on what is most important to our family.Read full review »
