Claim Space While Understanding Domestic Violence
The whole premise of Lavender PolkaDot, the non-profit I co-founded in 2021 was to create a library of written and community resources for current victims and survivors of all forms of abuse. It would be survivor run because survivors instinctingly know the most supportive ways to assist and empower other survivors. I was essentially turning my pain into passion and purpose. One of the very first creators I followed when I discovered the world of TikTok was Eliza VanCort. She is dynamic, enthusiastic, articulate, powerful, has a wicked sense of humour and is neuro spicy which I very much identify with. In one of Eliza's video's she was offering a free copy of her book " A Guide to Claiming Space" (Available on Amazon in hard cover, paperback and audiobook😉) to the first ten people who reached out to her. I composed an email to her immediately in hopes that I would be one of the ten and I was. Before receiving Eliza's book a friendship and sisterhood started to develop. We had phone conversations where we discussef our personal and professional goals as well as resources that have been key in our personal survivor journeys. I consider her family now and am very honoured to have her in my life" The very first book Eliza recommended to me was "No Visible Bruises" Her precise words were "As soon as you hang up with me get your hands on the book "No Visible Bruises" by Rachel Louise Snyder"and of course I did. I was thrilled to hear that Eliza's first guest on her new podcast was Rachel Louise Snyder because "No Visible Bruises" is one of the books I recommend to survivors of domestic violence. Both " A Women's Guide to Claiming Space and "No Visible Bruises" are staples in the Lavender PolkaDot library. The combination of these two books is a powerful tool for survivors in their abuse recovery journey. I highly recommend episode one for all abuse survivors, supporters of survivors and anyone who wants to understand the world of domestic violence Congratulations Eliza!
