Written by: Flora Annie Steel Once there lived a baron, who was great at foretelling the future. When he had a son, he checked his fortune and found out that he was destined to marry a very poor girl. He traced this to-be pride and bought the girl child from the poor parents who were already saddled with 5 kids. He threw the girl in the river but the girl was saved by a fisherman couple. She grew up there into a very beautiful maiden. When she was 15, the baron came about their place with his friends seeking some water. Drawing her fortune, the baron realized this is the same girl who he had tried to kill. He gave a closed letter and asked the girl to take it to his brother far away. The message was to kill the bearer. On the way, the inn she was staying in was raided by some thieves who found out about the letter. The chief of the thieves replaced the letter and asked the bearer to be married to the baron's son. And so it was done. But was this enough to change fate? Will the baron give up?
