Atheism and politics with a healthy dose of humor...
First, a confession. I stopped listening to Irreligiosophy before the podcast imploded. Leighton's sexist dribblings finally got to me, and I checked out after the Rebecca Watson/Elevatorgate sketch. I only make that confession because Cognitive Dissonance shares many good things with Irreligiosophy and I don't want those who had issues with some of the viewpoints from Irreligiosophy to see the comparisons and not give Cognitive Dissonance a fair chance because of them. The borderline sexism of Irreligiosophy (and I am not saying Irreligiosophy was sexist, that is why I said borderline. But depending on how you took certain things, I can definitely see how you'd make that criticism of Leighton.) is fortunately not one of the things these podcasts have in common. CogDis is hilarious. Other than the unintentional humor of some of the true believer podcasts I listen to, CogDis is the most humorous podcast I listen to. I often find myself laughing out loud in the car and drawing stares from those beside me at red lights. One of my only criticisms of CogDis is related to this; perhaps the hosts laugh at their own jokes too much. But I'll only say "perhaps" since this podcast simulates hanging out with a couple of friends and talking about the week's events. And that may be CogDis' best point for me. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and with most there is a definite fourth wall. I am a listener, and the voices on my iPod (separate from the voices in my head) are the podcasters. When I listen to CogDis in the car though, I feel as if two of my good friends are with me. Not all podcasters can pull this off; many just seem unprofessional when they try. While I am sure the CogDis guys would be the first to call themselves unprofessional, the podcast works and deserves a five star rating. My best friend hates podcasts. When he gets in my car, he immediately asks if he can put music on. He jokes that I've become an old man who listens to am talk radio. But when CogDis is on, he not only shuts up, but he can't stop laughing as well. Could CogDis be the gateway drug to the world of podcasts for him? Only time can tell. Hopefully CogDis is around for a long time. ~FDRead full review »

These two are not only hilarious, but are quite ardent defenders of women. They regularly give clever voice to the female victims of religious/cultural brutality. This show will crack you up, and make you think/doubt/rage quietly as you listen during the morning commute.
