Always thoughtful and erudite
Truth in advertising: I'm a liberal. I have a PhD in Sociology and I gladly would have voted for Obama's third term. In an effort better to understand "the other side" I began a quest for reasonable and articulate conservative voices. I landed on this podcast. Our mutual distaste and horror at the gross incompetence of the current administration set the hook and now I look forward to the bi-weekly podcast for my fix of views from the other side of the aisle. I strenuously disagree with the perspective Podhoretz and crew espouse, but, with a few exceptions, I find them firmly grounded in a quest for historially accurate and empirically situated explanations of the state of American politics. There are times when I find myself yelling at the radio to correct the record,, but I can count on one hand the number of times that I had to turn it off, finding them unreasonable or historically inaccurate. It's true that Podhoretz likes the sound of his own voice perhaps more than he should (he has a tendency to talk over his co-hosts from time to time), but he's a thoughtful guy, as are Rothman and Greenwald. They have yet to change my mind on anything in any fundamental way, but I have learned to see subtlety in the conservative perspective, and I have a greater appreciation for the earnest and well-meaning orientation of people with whom I disagree vociferously. It's kinda like David Brooks or Michael Gerson for the ears. I'm a more nuanced thinker thanks to this podcast!Read full review »
