Eating and talking over each other. What a waste of time

Peoples ability to manipulate and treat people terribly always amazes me. Informative and intriguing story. Little slow to start but I enjoyed listening. Empathize with Emma and all she’s been through. I admire her bravery to hold this man accountable as much as she could! Impressed how quickly...Read full review »

I really wanted to enjoy this, but it just went long too slowly for me

I appreciate the willingness to share her story. That being said, I felt the series was too long and the background music was not my favorite (and therefore distracting).

I know that it is never the victim’s fault. But taking responsibility for something we have not done can feel better than the arbitrary target. Yet we also know for a fact it’s not arbitrary. Predictors choose their victims for their great assets. … always. I’m really glad you have closure on...Read full review »

Binged series 1 and loved it! I’m glad to see potential victims fight back.

On face value, this podcast looks great, but the way it has been delivered is severely lacking.

Engaging, insightful, and well produced. Thank you for sharing your story. This story has so much more impact coming from you and hearing your voice.
Marchmama via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/16/23
I’m about 6 episodes in and enjoying the story. I thought I wouldn’t like so many insights from the therapist but it’s actually quite enlightening they way they do it. The one false note is the theme song … ughhhh!

Neat story but I couldn’t get past the mouth smacking off one host

There are 2 types of people in our modern world. People who believe they could never be scammed, and people who have been scammed. Coincidentally, the second group keeps growing at the exact same rate that the first group keeps shrinking. Huh. It’s podcasts like this that arm potential victims...Read full review »

The story was so good.
GAUDIA via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/11/23
The story is good enough, but is a tad repetitive. First they tell me what they’re going to tell me, then they tell me, and then they tell me what they’ve told me. It could be shortened. And then there are a lot of ads, which I suspect is why the story is prolonged. The bumper music also doesn’t...Read full review »

A multilayered and excellently researched story, that has also this very touching conclusion of sisters empowering each other. Loved it!

Such a raw and emotional listen. Luckily I was listening on a long haul flight because I just couldn’t take the headphone off. So sorry you had to go through this Emma. Hopefully this podcast with Sarah is helping you heal. Our justice system is sadly lacking when it comes to considering the long...Read full review »

The impact of a highly deceitful man on Emma’s life is well told. The story reveals that even strong, intelligent, aware people can fall prey to wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing. Unlike some podcasts, I feel this one has been responsibly made. Information from an expert is included throughout...Read full review »

Really enjoyed episode 1 but what about the case of the missing episode?
Rjcpjc via Apple Podcasts · New Zealand · 08/05/22
It’s all above. The show is a rare glimpse into taking power back from a con artist. The theme song is really bad and that is exasperated by the fact they play it 3 times an episode.

Interesting story, however it’s way too long and some unnecessary details.

I tried but I just found the telling of this story extremely boring. I tried to like it but it just didn’t gran me.

Andrew has no sole and is an expert at grooming his victims. I think it must be like getting hypnotised 😵‍💫by him because the manipulation and control of the mind, even the most intelligent people fall victim to his twisted ways. Go figure. I think I would not be so stupid but it’s clearly...Read full review »

I used to say that predator’s know prey, but really, predators simply know how to manipulate. This is the story of how an intelligent woman was lied to, progressively but a serial liar. Must listen

I binged this podcast in about a week, it was so gripping! Apart from the fantastic storytelling, I’m also thankful for the lessons that Emma and Sarah shared because when I found myself come up against an online scammer (literally only a week after finishing the podcast!) Amateurish in parts, perhaps it’s not a great idea to make a podcast with your Family? Also, who in heck has a lazy quarter million in cash to just hand over to a dodgey investment?

An interesting tale but I found it really hard to sympathise with Emma. It was her desire and means to take person financial advantage of NZ's hugely inflated and inequitable real estate market that got her into strife, despite warnings from family and friends. As a heart warming tale of...Read full review »

Binge-listened to this gripping, moving story & I’m not really a true crime fan so much as a lover of a good storytelling podcast. Emma is so relatable & awesome. Talk about having blinders on! “No ability to Google” and another 20 red flags and she still keeps thinking, “I’ll go with this….In fact, here’s some cash.” There is a lack of basic common sense, a willingness not to discern, and a quest for personal monetary gain. It’s literally too...Read full review »

Brilliantly narrated by Sarah and Emma- what a story! I was gripped all the way through. I love how they bring on a psychotherapist to help us understand the character traits of the con artist at the centre of this scam, so that we can avoid being conned in our own lives.
