“I stumbled across this podcast by chance, and I’m really enjoying it.
I learned Spanish at High School here in the UK, and now that my daughter is doing the same (30 years later!) I thought I should brush up my skills.
What I’ve enjoyed about this series is that the conversations feel natural and human, rather than sounding like formal news bulletins (yes, I listen to those language podcasts too, but I usually find them so dull and uninspiring that I fade out and stop listening - really listening - pretty quickly).
Here, the presenter is warm and friendly, sounds genuinely interested in his interviewees, and the conversations are engaging and interesting.
The subject matter covered is useful in terms of everyday life in Spanish-speaking countries, and the level of Spanish is perfectly appropriate - for me, at least.
The Spanish is spoken slower than usual (which is great for rusty linguists like me!), and the vocabulary is accessible. I’ve only had to google a few words, and they were when a specific subject matter was briefly discussed in the natural meanderings of the conversation.
When I listen to this podcast I feel like I’m learning without trying, even about random things like an Andalusian dish called ‘Aubergine/ Eggplant and honey’ (the honey in question being ‘miel de caña’ which I learned is like molasses) which I had to google and will now be making with the kids this weekend. Yum!
I studied French and Italian at university, so I’m looking forward to listening to this series in those languages too.
Congratulations on an excellent podcast, and keep up the good work!”
