An interesting concept, but the execution isn't very entertaining
I feel a little bad for writing this, because obviously a lot of effort and talent went into producing this, but after the first episode I was almost ready to unsubscribe straight away. I am a long time supporter of the Night Vale Presents network, and Dylan and I would probably find ourselves on the same "side" of many of the social issues I imagine this series will explore. I don't hate Dylan. I'm not mad, but I am disappointed. The first episode, while slickly produced, was almost completely devoid of meaningful content. In his effort to keep steering the conversation away from incivility, Marron managed to mostly avoid confronting his guest on any factual errors he was making about topics of contention and in doing so gave him a platform to be moderately intolerant in a slightly more palatable way. A large portion of the episode was actually devoted to the two of them self-congratulating about having a civil conversation, but civility in social justice fights is meaningless if to maintain it requires a reinforcement of an unjust status quo. The show also committed a cardinal sin of such productions in that it wasn't entertaining. In the end I'm not sure who this is for. "Social Justice Warriors" (for want of a better term) like myself will be frustrated with the platforming of internet reactionaries, internet reactionaries will side "against" Marron and be annoyed out of principle, and people who like the "both sides-ism" will still probably find it uninteresting to hear two people go "aren't we great for not calling each other names?" for half an hour. Again, I feel bad. Marron is clearly a nice guy, and a lot of talent went into making this so it feels a bit like kicking a puppy, but however slick the exterior, it can't create content where there is none. I'll keep listening for a couple more episodes to see if this picks up, but sadly I feel like there is probably something rotten with the core concept.Read full review »

I loved the first guest, and I hope to see more conversations like these soon.

But kind of annoying. Thought it was gonna be more interesting. But it's just all the things I've heard before.Read full review »
