So real and thorough - an inspiration in many areas
Thank you very much for this great information. I belong to Coalition for Community Choice and was introduced to this from a tweet from CCC about Desiree being interviewed. When I went to your page and saw all the episodes I decided to start listening from Episode #1 (I haven't gotten to the one with Desiree yet) and am so thankful for your honest understanding and information. As a parent, healthcare provider, advocate and guardian, I have been through so much - from crisis to stabilization but there is always a crisis looming in the horizon it seems and I'm always looking for ways to improve the situation, not only for my son, but for the community. I am so thankful to hear from advocates who really do understand what CHOICE means and that everyone is different and needs to find what works for them - not someone else's idea of choice or what someone else would choose, but really looking at person centered planning. Without getting too policical about it (I never realized how political the issue was until my son was in years of crisis and due to the poltical situation he was denied services at the local ICF/ID even after many hospitalizations. ) There were many denials along the way and I have become very accustomed to filing appeals and supplying data and information but even with real information the legislators and "mainstream advocates" refuse to acknowledge it and push an agenda that I'm finding many families do not want. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to break through the wall of advocates that are biased against true choice. I hope that many people listen to your podcast and hear the honest situation - both pros and cons - and eventually the tide should turn. Thank you again - I find inspiration from your podcast and always learn something new in each episode.Read full review »

Love love love the podcast! I’ve gotten so much out of it. I love learning along with Kim, I don’t always agree with her, but the range of her experience and the expertise of her experts is so good. The literacy series was a GAME changer. As the autistic parent of a physically disabled kid I’m...Read full review »
