“Listened expecting audio versions of creepypastas, with perhaps a discussion after, was very dissapointed. Although some of the guests are alright, the host, Jeff manages to mess up a very simple podcast.
The 'readings' are always poor, shortened and paraphrased versions of the originals, often with key parts forgotten, and then mentioned as an afterthought, as it seems they listen to it once before relaying it on the podcast, which shows especially in the often opinion filled analysis (being generous there calling it analysis) after. The host often interrupts or takes over from guests reading also.
In the multiple (would guess 10-20, didn't have anything else downloaded) episodes I listened to, not once did he really have anything positive to say about the stories, citing his criticisms to be based off his own extensive literary education and experience with writing. I had a look at his site after hearing all this negativity about other peoples' writing expecting something great, after all for him to knock all of this stuff he must have some really great writing himself, right? Turns out no, it was all pretty poor and formulaic. That said, whenever any Asian media was mentioned he would sing its' praises, so not all negativity!
Also for me personally, it grinded whenever he'd say '1$ a month really isn't that much' when shilling his Patreon. Sure, it isn't much, but when you're producing something that feels so low effort, and costs next to nothing, in an environment full of much higher-quality podcasts that don't ask for money, why would I give even that?”Read full review »
