Brilliant story telling couched in sensitive sound design and a wonderfully subtle and sensitive approach.

I’ve loved Criminal for years and Phoebe is an outstanding narrator. As a South African who has grown up seeing and living around wild animals (including crocodiles) I am absolutely loving episode 196 and Phoebe’s reaction to the alligators and how big they. Isn’t the wild a wonderful place!

I get so excited whenever a new episode drops. Phoebe’s voice is both soothing and captivating. The way she presents and unravels these stories even as she interviews the people behind them is a joy to listen to! The episodes are informative, amusing and riveting. I’m always left wanting more.

I’ve listened to a few episodes that sounded interesting to me, but find the advert breaks really annoying and they go on for so long. Most of the length of the episodes is advert then actual podcast.

Don’t be fooled by the name this is not another true crime podcast. ‘Criminal’ will challenge your perception of good and evil. A wonderfully researched and vast collections of stories from historical to current times.

I live the variety of crimes. Some of them are crimes I would have never thought of, others are brutal, and some are down right dumb. Also the reporting is phenomenal. Please never stop.

Historical, narrative, engaging, uplifting, great production value, host is great. I’m glad there are 200+ episodes to consume. Highly recommended to anyone who likes true crime, history, or narrative storytelling.

I love this podcast but ever since Vox acquired it, the ads seemed to have exponentially increased. I listened to other podcasts that are 3 hours with half the amount of ads. 5 stars for the content but the ads knock it down by 2 stars, it may seem excessive but so do the ads. Knocking down one...Read full review »

I used to love this podcast, but recently they have become very political. I wish they had stuck with the original idea because I used to listen faithfully.

Hi there, long time listener from Sydney Australia. Absolutely obsessed with everything that is Criminal and This is Love. This episode really touched me and made me cry more than I was prepared to cry. I was very surprised how moved I was. Phoebe you just have a way, that’s so engaging, jaw...Read full review »

I started listening during my 1L year in law school. I love the topics and Phoebe has the best voice!

Maurice has such a whiny voice I couldn’t make it past 16 mins. To be fair, I’m not in love with the dulcet tones of Phoebe Judge either. But her incorporation of personal voice/interviews makes it very compelling. And regardless of her LITERAL voice, I admire her. 💓 Just couldn’t get past this one.

I’ve listened to Criminal for years but was really saddened to have ads for Botox rammed down my throat in the ad breaks during my last couple of listens. Goes against my values by normalising anti-ageing beauty agenda in such a forceful way, so I’m boycotting the series for now.

I tried to listen to the episode "The Juror". The story seemed really good but I had to turn it off because there were so many different sounds, popping drums? and music going on. I just can't listen to that and listen to what the people are saying at the same time. It's not...Read full review »

I’ve listened to all of the episodes. This is my second review my rating has gone from five to three. The quality of the stories have declined recently. I’m bummed. This used to be my favorite podcast. 1/18/2021 update The Last two episodes I have listened to are back to five stars.

This is one of the most satisfying true crime Podcasts around. While most Podcasts tend to be hyper focused on a salacious crime, Criminal is so diverse and unpredictable. It reminds listeners that Crimes are being committed by everyone from everywhere throughout all of history. One day you...Read full review »

This is the best podcast out there. our family loves listening to Phoebe talk about true crime. Something about her voice just makes it that much better. I do wish that the ad breaks would be better times but otherwise great.

I have listen to about 40 episodes and I can’t think of one criminal who actually seemed remorseful. I think the host is ridiculous and gives too much attention to people who do not deserve it. This podcast does the opposite of what many true crime podcast do, it gives attention to the criminal.

I can’t put my finger on it, but Phoebe is just special, hearing her voice is my self care (is that weird?) I simply love this podcast!

Can’t I just have the option to pay a few dollars to not hear the brand new style of advertisement? Love “Criminal” and will miss it grandiosely.

Jaw dropping. The extent of the humanity shown in this episode is stunning. Beautiful, sad and exciting. This one has it all. Debbie is a star. Love hearing Phoebe read Didion. Bravo.

We get it… white people and guns are the problem 🤦🏽‍♀️ and somehow, banning abortion is what kills people. Explain that “logic”.

You only do podcasts on what you deem crimes against blacks. There are plenty of crimes perpetrated against white people. Heinous horrible murders. Do the Harvey family murders. There are thousands to choose from. Black on white murders are rampant.

I think I’ve been listening to this podcast for a decade. Is that possible? Has it been around that long? In any case it has remained in my top 5 favorite podcasts for all those years. I heard the interview with Ben Ferencz when it first aired in 2019. When I learned of his death, I was hoping that the interviewed would be repeated. Thanks, Phoebe, for doing so!

Wow so you replay an old episode due to Ferencz’s death and then run ads on it. Doesn’t get more sleezy than that. Show some respect, podcasters these days all with their corporate style greed. Shameful

The most disturbing and meaningful podcast I have ever listened to. Always, brilliant, always amazing always criminals revealed. Pls don’t ever stop your mission. It’s so much more than we can ever understand. Love to all any Jews who suffered. Good bless you all 🧡🧡♥️❤️💙

If you only listen to one episode, it must be the interview with Benjamin Ferencz. He was the chief prosecutor of 22 men responsible for ordering the murders of 1 million people in concentration camps in WWII. But for his perseverance, these men wouldn’t have been prosecuted. Phoebe’s good sounds very put on. Forced. She doesn’t sound the same way in narration as she does in interviews. Her voice is so distracting. It’s a shame, too, because otherwise it’s all so well done.

Phoebe is so thorough and genuine. I like when she visits sites with people involved with crimes. Her genuine questions and reactions are the best.
