I love the show and topics but I do get a weird maybe nostalgic feeling when I listen because of the music and hosts voice. Reminds me of something from the 80s not a bad thing just probably just me

I wonder if WBEZ Chicago, Shannon Heffernan Is aware of her vocal fry? Good content just hard to get used to the vocal fry.

Really interesting stories well told with an excellent narration. These aren’t just your usual true crime gore stories either - some are more human interest stories. But they are so well written and presented they will always keep your interest whatever the topic.

I love that you never know what kind of story you will hear when you start this podcast. It’s so well done! I also love the shorter format, as nothing seems to be drug out to meet an hour long segment like some other crime podcasts. With regard to latest episode…I did miss Phoebe’s narration and...Read full review »

I can’t believe that signing on today there is someone other than Phoebe that is doing this show. There are so many podcasts and even if this is well written I came here for Phoebe and what she does I am so disappointed that there is someone else doing this podcast I’m disappointed in the person...Read full review »

This used to be my favorite podcast but with this latest IL prison episode (emails) it seems like they are going down the path of advocacy journalism and the intellectually lazy portrayal of LE as the bad guys and prisoners as the victims.
Treckly via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/27/22
ESPECIALLY the prison episode. I saw someone review about how “media is what makes people feel sorry for inmates” excuse me? They’re human beings, not everyone in there is a murderer, and did they not hear what the GUARD was saying? He admitted to how horrible they all were! There’s no getting...Read full review »

I enjoy this podcast for the uncommon crime stories that it frequently features. Not everything is a murder, a cold case. Many of them are light-hearted, historical, little-known, even amusing. However, there is definitely some romanticism of criminals, a hefty dose of criminal martyrdom. The...Read full review »

I love Criminal but I think I will stop listening after this last episode. I am a Director of Nursing at a prison and my husband is an officer, I know very well how corrections works. First of all they aren’t “guards” they are officers. It’s media like this that makes people feel sorry for...Read full review »

I just have to review again. This podcast is wonderful. It is my very favorite and could listen to it 24/7! Just heard the “420” episode and I am still laughing.

Used to be good. Now it’s just an advertising delivery device. Phoebe still has the best voice in radio though.

My hearts thumps every time a new episode drops. Incredibly good suspenseful storytelling, superbly told by Phoebe and team.

No matter what subject matter you’re in the mood for, it has been touched on, brilliantly, by Phoebe & “Criminal” 💯! Phoebe has researched it, conducted live interviews with the people directly involved with it, and then delivers an episode that is very well thought-out, informative,...Read full review »

why
I feel like it’s such a shame that the best podcast writers feel a need to do the weirdest, most unnatural affects when they’re recording. Phoebe Judge is a great writer and producer; why does she read her excellent scripts in such an oddly theatrical whisper? Why can she not just talk like she...Read full review »

Criminal is without a doubt one of THE best shows out there. I never write reviews; this is my first, but wanted everyone who reads them to know —you’ve just stumbled on to your new favorite podcast. Phoebe, you knock it out of the park every time. Thank you.

What has happened to this once great podcast? I used to love it but now it's dull. I don't want to listen to a story from something that happened in 1817 or about a magpie when listening to this pod (I love magpies but that's not what this is about!). Pls go back to what Criminal used...Read full review »

I have just listened to “The Magpie”. A beautiful story of a community united in its relationship with an adopted animal. Absolutely heartbreaking.

For years I’ve listened to criminal and genuinely loved this show. It used to be about interesting crimes and quirky people - easy to digest and often fun. I regretfully can’t say I have the same enjoyment for the show anymore. Listen to the last 15 episodes (maybe even more) and you’ll find...Read full review »

I have just been listening to an episode for 15 minutes to be informed it is an episode from another podcast. If I wanted to listen to another podcast I would have chosen to at the outset. I have now unsubscribed completely

This review is specifically for episode 186. If you are going to repeat a ‘this is love’ episode i.e. ‘the magpie of heart mountain’ at least say in the description and don’t try and pass it off as a new ‘criminal’ episode, hardly criminal is it!

A variety of content. Not just your typical crime coverage. Well composed and easy to follow. Phoebe also has a great voice and does well interviewing. I have listened to every episode of this podcast. In my opinion, the mark of a good host is someone you are willing to name your pet after. Love the podcast, very interesting crime stories! I find Phoebe’s mildly breathy voice distracting, as the breathiness seems like an affectation (who knows?). (1) there’s not a ridiculous amount of ads. Probably one of the silliest of all reviews. (2) the complaints about what she DOESN'T cover, wether it be racial or political, is like they only listened to a handful and decided it wasn’t good enough. I’ve been completely enamored by the variety,...Read full review »

The subject matter and episodes are good. The way the narrator speaks is so irritating to me I am unable to listen . Episode 170, “Ian Manuel,” is infuriating to listen to. I’d say Phoebe Judge is happy as a lark that nowadays the 13% feral thugs are out of jail not long after arrest.

Dr Strange is fantastic but she needs to get rid of her rude, obnoxious co-host who interrupts her constantly with stupid questions and pointless observations. He ruins the show and I cannot listen to him anymore.

I used to love this show when it first started out. Over the months and years the stories are still engaging but the number of mid-show ads is getting ridiculous. Yes, Phoebe, “they had such belief that documentary evidence would make all the difference.” I suppose that would still be true today if Big Tech and the Fake News Media didn’t censor anything and everything that deviates from the far-left’s talking points.
