Statement of Faith
I listened to the Defecting from Bethel 3 part series and overall if was very good. They took time to explain key theological differences and asked very pointed questions from the guest who “defected” from Bethel. Some of my constructive criticism as a fellow follower of Christ would be that the conversation was very informative and yet largely one-sided. Since Bethel is cultish and not deemed an actual cult, it would have been nice to see a follow up interview with a leader from Bethel (assuming they agree). Since it was so one-sided, it makes one wonder well what are the standards of the interviewers and their belief systems? What about the guest? One might say, well the Bible of course. But isn’t that what any cult or non-cult would say? To get more context on their parameters for evaluation I emailed them for a statement of faith, but still received no response. Even a small disclaimer in the podcast about any particular theology/denomination they adhere to could give some fair context. Without any context on their criteria, it’s basically just saying, “Hey, just trust us. We know what we are talking about.” I hope it’s just that they missed my email, but a lack of transparency is exactly how the cults they criticize like to operate and as believers of Christ, more transparency can be one of the many areas we are set apart. I went to their website and there’s even less info except for selling a subscription to their podcast. No bios for the hosts and no About Us. This is a huge miss in my view as I always like to know where my content is coming from and the inevitable biases of who I am listening to. Only then can I truly assess where I stand while using what God has revealed to me through His truth, like the Bereans found in Acts 17. Assuming I get a response, I am willing to update my review.

I listened to the Defecting from Bethel podcast and let me be clear I am far from a Bethel defender...I certainly have many questions about Bethel and their doctrine, however I think this podcast takes a poor approach. Many verses are taken out of context or no context is given for verses. They...Read full review »
