Dan Carlin is the type of guy you want at your cookout... the type of guy who delivers a well-read opinion in a way that people can stomach, and that shuts up any blow-hard. He explains things like a father talks to a son, with knowledge, balance, enthusiasm, and in a way that sticks. He uses language that that allows the facts to file themselves in your brain, so that episode after episode, you retain the knowledge. This is impressive by itself, but when you compare his manner to others, you realize that he has somehow figured out a way to deliver these qualities without even a hint of smugness, arrogance, or self-righteousness... a trap that claims most of his peers.
