After the Covid episode, then for some reason we did an episode on George Floyd’s death? Felt like we lost the plot

These guys don’t really do much work on their subjects on the episodes I’ve listened to. I was young also once and I have sympathy for their predicament however I don’t recommend this podcast.

Guy trying to put 2020’s woke morals on people who lived centuries ago. Has limited knowledge of historical context.

He keeps laughing at the “stupidity” of 18th century people around women issues. Does he not realize how vaginas work? Every month, blood comes out of them. And when they have a baby, it needs to eat. Before tampons/pads, pumping/refrigeration, baby formula, most woman would be leaking...Read full review »

Even for a podcast that is self-admittedly amateur, the word “amateur” is a huge understatement. They regularly misrepresent simple historical facts and misuse simple English words (“rationed” in place of “reasoned”, “heretical” in place of “hierarchical” for example.) And as the...Read full review »

•EPISODE: “Fascism I” in which the female guest swears way more than is necessary for emphasis or effect. Remember: less is more. •EPISODE: “Fascism II” in which the female guest doesn’t swear at all, making this much more listenable.

I just listened to the pulp fiction mash up and loved it. Great fun! Highly unusual but really interesting. Just the right mix of ideas and fun.

Too difficult to listen to. Gratuitous giggles and irrelevant asides as entertainment when discussing serious subject matter. The woman is incomprehensible with poor diction . The lead man pedantic ... it could have been interesting but too difficult - because of this presentation- to stay...Read full review »

If you have the stunted vocabulary that comes from too much screen time and too few books, and like lazy grammar, then this podcast is for you.

The team always sound like they are having a ball. Just the right combination of incredulity, sarcasm and suspension of disbelief. Sorry it’s ending but lots of back episodes to enjoy.

I have never listened to podcast that is anything like this. The host makes history jump off the page with his patented storytelling abilities and subjects that you won’t hear other historians talking about. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good story.

There is good chemistry between the main host and his recurring series of co-hosts. It’s a fun conversation and they do a good job digging for details. The only thing I would want is for them to release the occasional shorter single part episodes - say 30-40 min inline with the Genghis...Read full review »

The host(s) typically manifest just enough information to be dangerous. Sloppy with facts, reckless with metaphors and terrifyingly free with unfounded supposition, suspicions and guesses. Sophomoric wisecracks and tiresome cynicism are what pass for wit. Downright icky at times. Bad history and...Read full review »

Facts and opinions in equal measure, and of course there’s beer. 😊 A casual look at interesting parts of history on a variety of subjects most of which lead nowhere but historical dead ends are strangely intriguing.

I love this quirky history podcast. Well researched and I enjoy the host too. I just found it and I’m looking forward to going through the archive!

This is perfect - they take an interesting topic and dig deep into the actual historical facts behind it, but with the dorky, nerdy, sci-fi / RPG fan mindset that I can totally relate to. Entertaining in the way only truly educational discussions can be, for big history nerds.

Discussing ideas we have since abandoned across a massive range of times and cultures, this show covers a hugely diverse range of subject matter but is always engaging and cheerful. This is my first EVER podcast. After the first episode that I listened to, I immediately liked them on Facebook. This show is fantastic. I call it a very nerdy podcast as it combines aspects of mythology, rpgs, cooking, interviews and personal contributions. The hook is that each series focuses on an idea that humanity used to accept, but then died out to the waves of history drowning it. B. T. Newberg is a...Read full review »

Surely this podcast will never be overthrown and will continue to command loyalty as long as it continues, as the way of the heavens dictates, to uphold the sacred duty that the podcaster owes to the podcasted.

It may be a bit corny to say this, but investing in a podcast is like inviting someone in to your house to talk to you about something. A good podcaster is someone whose visits you look forward to.
