This story is told well, but it is absolutely hard to believe. Who in the right mind is crazy enough to stay with someone who claims to have had all of this done to her. She seems very desperate and very dramatic and by the end of this podcast I was thinking if he kills her that’s what she gets...Read full review »

It’s an well told tale of an ages old story. Lots of different views of the relationship from friends looks in. The narrator is soothing and fluid.

A fabulous portrayal of a life lived in fear….what would we do in these circumstances? The red flags are a “must to remember”. Thankyou for sharing this horrific part of your life, but you are showing so much resilience… keep it up. A pleasure to have met you.

Maree does not come off as likable to root for. The husband is spoken of vaguely so it’s hard to resent him at first. The storyline takes three episodes to becomes very intriguing. And the narrator is boring, fitting to the story.

This podcast is excellently produced and edited. There is no padding or unnecessary repetition of information; the story moves along nicely without feeling rushed or lacking depth. Maree’s story is compelling and shocking. She is a brave woman who fought incredibly hard to escape from the...Read full review »

A story about strength and resilience in the face of selfishness and harm. Worth a listen. Will pull on the heartstrings.

An extreme example of battered woman syndrome and how it can touch anyone from any background. This woman is educated and affluent. She’s emotionally intelligent and has many loving friends and family yet she gets sucked into an horrifically abusive marriage she struggles to escape from (alive!)...Read full review »

Wow
I can’t believe someone would give someone so many opportunities to kill them.

I met Maree on a long haul flight and had an amazing 17 hours of conversation and laughter, laced with a couple of gins. Maree is an incredible woman with an amazing life story. Listening to her podcast, I am amazed all over again by her fortitude and courage. Despite all she has been through...Read full review »

How many times does a man have to show you who he is before you believe him??? How many times does he need to attempt murder before you cut your losses and run? Geeze.
Stacy de via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/05/23
This woman is a masochist. She acts sooooo surprised each time he very obviously tries to murder her. “Oh silly me didn’t think anything of it”. I couldn’t finish the last episode.

It can be hard to reconcile how people stay in toxic situations but it happens all the time. A crazy but unfortunately probably more common than we want to think situation. The podcast kept me clicking to the next episode for sure.

A ton of wild twists and turns. Definitely kept me listening, cautionary for sure. Wish for the best for her for the future.

Binged this podcast! Such an interesting and gripping story

I listened to all of the episodes at one time while going about my morning. I had a hard time understanding why this woman didn’t get out sooner, but no judgment because I’ve never been through domestic violence. I’m so happy she has someone new in her life.

Really do not understand how this story is real. How do you continue to live with someone on a boat who attempts to kills you multiple times. Abs the podcast just…doesn’t address it?
Rach983 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/01/23
This story is insane. This well to do woman marries a bad guy and stays with him even when he’s trying to kill her. It’s worth listening to just to find out how stupid this woman is. Lord help us!
Xz690 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/30/23
This Australian woman with a very important and well-paying career is somehow stupid enough to keep around a man who has blatantly tried to kill her three times (maybe more…. I threw in the towel after the third time), or she’s lying. Either way I became so disgusted that I lost all sympathy and...Read full review »

I loved it, many people don't understand the type of pull in an abusive relationship. Great story of what to watch for in a relationship, and how quickly things can go from fairy-tale happily-ever-after to nightmare!!Read full review »

Compelling story about what it’s like to be trapped - literally trapped in the confines of a boat, and emotionally trapped in a deceptive and manipulative relationship. Grateful she was able to survive and live to share her story, a warning sign about all-too-familiar toxic and narcissistic...Read full review »

While there are plenty of moments that you think to yourself “Go! Get out!” This is truly a harrowing story about a woman trapped in a horrible relationship where the stakes for staying and leaving are both heavy consequences. Worth a listen and amazing what she went through!

Well done-ish. It’s basically a 5 per interview with the victim. I’m not going to say she shouldn’t have gone back, but she definitely shouldn’t blame police for “not believing her.” She repeatedly made decisions that would make it hard for any outsider and 99% of insiders to continue to believe...Read full review »

Jaw dropping, edge of seat listening. I’m so glad your safe now Maree and have found some happiness again. Unfortunately domestic violence still lives on. Thanks you for your brave account to help others.
