Addiction - Why Talk to the Uninformed.
This guy, Steve Almond, is utterly clueless about addiction. And his ramblings are uninformed and lame, and actually dangerous. “What if there were a drug that made you your best self?” he muses…. “Would you be obliged to take it?" I was my “best self” when I was high on heroin. I probably would have played well with a toddler. But it soon becomes obvious that this is not sustainable. Perhaps this is intended to be a positive conversation in which you have 1 clueless person and 1 lovely, informed and understanding human being. But it’s frankly not very successful, not so far, not what i’ve listened to - unless Cheryl’s interlocutor is supposed to be functioning as some kind of foolish foil.Read full review »

The questions The Sugars answer are all really compelling and the advice given is really helpful and heartfelt. To top it off, The Sugars both have really pleasant voices and there is great music throughout the podcast.

I sometimes enjoy this podcast, but if you look past the openness and kindness the "answers" provided really smack of straight person, monogamy-only, moralist sanctification of marriage as the only valid arrangement and institution for love, one both the authors seem to have found smug...Read full review »
