“Cal Newport’s work has had a significant influence on my life since I first read “Deep Work” in 2016, which was the year I started my first degree. At College (high school), I found an interest in biology and managed to scrape and get into a respected university despite not doing particularly well in exams and getting good grades through pure grit. Deep Work provided me with a lifestyle that allowed me to get great grades while not working particularly hard all the time. I worked consistently and methodically as the guidelines in his book provided. Rapidly, I purchased all his books physically, digitally and in audiobook format and now I have a Master of Science degree with a distinction (preliminary until ratified in less than a month!) grade. I’d suggest getting his books and subscribing to this podcast.
Anyway, this podcast should have existed years ago. I’ve also subscribed to Cal’s blog for around 8 years (I didn’t know it was the same gentleman who wrote Deep Work for most of the time, as I just called it the ‘Study Hacks Blog’). While the comments section has always been very helpful on the blog, you could easily miss a lot of the questioned asked and the responses Cal gives. This blog addresses this issue as Cal can on a weekly basis select some questions he’d think his readers would appreciate, and give a thought-out and detailed response. It helps him remain in touch with us and it’s a great feeling getting your questioned answered (my question is in Episode 2, with the first question asked under the ‘Deep Life’ section!). I can’t fault this podcast and it doesn’t have filler which other conversation-based podcasts can sometimes have in the form of events where the conversation gets sidetracked by a random thought. Cal’s life is also a great section. Hell, the whole podcast is great.
I purchased a ticket to see Cal debate in London around 3 months ago. Sadly, it got cancelled and I had to get a refund. Hope it gets rescheduled as I want to watch that debate and get my books signed!”
